KIRKLAND, Wash. – Southern Oregon’s Allyson Ward headed in the golden goal in the second overtime as the Raiders edged Northwest University 2-1 under stormy conditions this afternoon. Weather with heavy rain and winds gusting up to 40 mph, blew into the area right as the women’s game was getting under way and continued throughout the contest.

Southern Oregon got on the scoreboard just 1:05 into the game just as the storm hit the area. Presely Lambert scored the first goal of the day unassisted beating the Northwest U goalkeeper and putting a shot into the net from 10 yards out from the right side.
NU's Travis Bailey then evened the score at 1-1 as she headed in a free kick from Gabriele De Andrade in the 11th minute.

The teams would battle for the following 90 minutes plus until Ward’s header would find the back of the net for the victory. Lisa Elledge had the assist on Ward’s goal as she put her pass in the middle of the box, 5 yards out for Ward’s header . SOU’s Megan Kapp almost ended the game earlier, just 35 seconds into the second overtime when her first shot hit the center post and her second shot off the rebound was saved by NU’s keeper, Lauren Patefield.

Only 22 shots were taken in the game due to solid defense by both teams and the challenging weather conditions. SOU had 13 shots to Northwest U’s 9 with 4 of the Raider shots coming in the second extra period.

Kylie Moltzen earns the win for Southern Oregon (6-7-2, 5-3 CCC) finishing with 6 saves while Lauren Patefield takes the loss for Northwest U (4-7-1, 3-2 CCC) also making 6 saves for the contest.

"Well, this was a tough lost for the ladies today," said Val Seid, NU head coach. "I thought they played well through regulation time. We just needed to finish it out. We had our opportunities but just couldn’t get it on the back of the net. SOU was a strong team that wanted the win and I have to hand it to them they did a good job. Nonetheless it was a heartbreaker and now we have tough road ahead of us."
