Raiders Clip Owls 3-2
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Southern Oregon scored two second half goals and held on to down Oregon Tech 3-2 in Cascade Conference play Friday Night at Trevor Derrah Field. The Raiders improve to 5-6 in CCC action and 10-6 on the year with the win. The Hustlin’ Owls drop to 4-7 in conference and 6-9 on the year with the loss.
SOU took an early 1-0 lead in the 16
th minute when Johnnie Workman sent a header cross in front of the Oregon Tech goal and Dakota Scott chipped in the 10 footer for the 1-0 lead.
Tech answered with just 45 seconds remaining before the half; Benito Torres-Mata chipped across a pass just outside the 18 box, and Trinidad Flores headed the ball in to the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1.
The Raiders came out of the halftime break with fire in their eyes and scored twice in the first 13 minutes to take a 3-1 lead. The first score came on a corner kick as Greg Rapet sent a great ball into the box that found Paul Matyas who headed the ball into the goal for the 2-1 lead in the 48
th minute. Just 10 minutes later, Brett Butler found Brendan Allen on a long pass on a counter attack. Allen went one on one with the Tech keeper with Allen wningin, chipping the ball in the goal after beating the keeper for the 3-1 lead.
Trinidad Flores made things interesting as he took a pass from Torres-Mata and scored from 15 yards out to make it a 3-2 game in the 64
th minute.
Each team missed on opportunities to score over the final 25 minutes but neither could find the back of the net as Southern Oregon held on for the 3-2 win.
For the game OIT held a 23-16 edge in total shots with SOU having a 10-8 advantage in quality shots on goal.
Oregon Tech returns to the pitch next Friday at Trevor Derrah Field at 4:30 pm against the University of Great Falls.
