SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University women’s soccer team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday at Warrior Field in the right way with a convincing 4-1 triumph over Trinity Lutheran College. For the Warriors, it was their first win since September 18th and it was the most goals Corban has scored in a match all year long.

“Today was a total team effort,” said head coach Marty Ziesemer. “We have been making possession a priority this week, so it was good to see us make the ball move quickly and with a focus. I believe all four goals were from following up and pressuring Trinity which shows how we worked together as a team today.”

After a very positive start to the match for Corban with a few opportunities, it was Trinity Lutheran that actually got on the scoreboard first when Jalisa Santiago ripped a shot from the top of the 18-yard box into the left-side netting, putting the Eagles up 1-0 in the 6th minute.

Corban responded in the 18th minute of play however, tying things up on a beautiful strike from Warrior sophomore forward Sadee Kallis (Yakima, Wash.), as she ripped a bouncing ball off the crossbar and in from outside of the 18-yard box. Assists were credited to sophomore goalkeeper Sheyenne Brusven (Silverton, Ore.) on the perfectly weighted punt and then the one-time flick from senior forward Katelyn Fekkes (Stanwood, Wash.), as the ball fell right into the path of Kallis for the goal.

Corban then took the lead when Fekkes ripped a shot that was saved, and the ball fell right to the feet of sophomore forward Marissa Telarroja (Claremont, Calif.), and she blasted a right-footed strike into the back of the net to put Corban up 2-1 in the 22nd minute.

Junior midfielder Emily Larick (Redlands, Calif.) took advantage of an Eagle miscue in the 40th minute, as after Trinity Lutheran failed to clear a ball, Larick pounced and scored to put Corban up 3-1.

Then in the second stanza, Telarroja scored her second of the game off of a beautifully-weighted pass from Fekkes, scoring into the left side-netting to put Corban up 4-1 in the 51st minute of play to seal the deal for the Warriors.

“Having Fekkes get three assists on Senior Day was great,” said Ziesemer. She was attacking well and getting dangerous opportunities and putting herself in the right place. This is good momentum for us as we get back to conference play.”

Corban outshot Trinity Lutheran on the afternoon, 27-9, while also holding the corner-kick edge, 13-2. Fekkes finished the day with three assists, while Telarroja registered a team-best two goals.

Corban (4-9-1) returns to Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) action next week when it travels to Eastern Oregon University for a big matchup against the Mountaineers. Kickoff on Friday is set for 1 p.m.
