Corban Sweeps WWU in Sunday Volleyball Match

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. –Corban (9-11, 7-7) started the match on a hot streak hitting .361 in the first set to come away with a 3-0 win over Walla Walla (7-13, 3-11).
The Wolves struggled to get any kind of offense going earning only 4 kills in the first set while the Warriors were led by Amber Parker, Hannah Olson and Standley Duree with 6, 5 and 5 kills respectively in their 25-16 win.
Walla Walla got going in the second set and had a brief lead but Corban came back and earned a 25-18 win. The Wolves continued to struggle only earning 7 kills for the set.
The match really got going in the third set when both teams traded points until Corban took a 9-8 lead and continued to go up by 8 points. The Wolves, who've relied on their outside hitters to bring them points, got a boost from their blockers. Led by
Melissa Barton and
Morgan Doyle, 6 and 5 block assists, the Wolves front line frustrated the Warriors hitters. Walla Walla was able to tie the game up at 19-19 but Amber Parker had a couple big kills that sealed the 25-23 Warrior victory.
Corban was led by Amber Parker with a match high 16 kills and Madison McLain with 41 assists. Haley Wells and McKenzie Kolomyjec led the Warrior defense with 17 and 14 digs. Bethany Filipenko and Sloane Morrison each added 5 block assists.
The Wolves were led by
Emily Allen and
Maria Darling with 5 and 4 kills respectively.
Alissa Casey led the team with 12 assists while
Maria Darling and
Rylee Sutton had 11 and 10 digs each.
Melissa Barton paced the team with 6 blocks followed by
Morgan Doyle with 5,
Emily Allen with 4 and
Natalie Skeochwith 3.
