Mario Guizar Super Mario Rescues WPC 10/23/2015 8:27:00 PM PORTLAND, Ore. - Mario Guizar scored two second half goals to help complete a comeback victory for Warner Pacific over Northwest Christian, 3-1, today in Portland. The Basics • Score: Warner Pacific 3, Northwest Christian 1 • Records: WPC (8-5-1, 7-3-1 CCC), NCU (3-11-1, 2-8 CCC) • Location: Damazo Field, Portland, Ore. • The Short Story: Warner Pacific had to use a late surge of goals to defeat an upset minded Northwest Christian team today in CCC action. The visiting Beacons enjoyed a 1-0 lead and man advantage, but conceded three scores in the final 20 minutes. How it Happened • NCU found the net first, scoring a goal in the 12th minute. Victor Irechukwu latched on to a deflected clearance and laced a shot from seven yards away that WP keeper Joe White couldn't reach. • The Beacons continued to frustrate the home team throughout the first period, and almost tacked on a second goal but Joey Garcia's effort glanced off the crossbar. • It went from bad to worse for Warner Pacific in the early stages of the second half, as Elijah Troutman was sent off after a late challenge and foul in the 62nd minute. • The color red must have woke the Knight offense, and particularly Guizar. The senior equalized the score with a curling shot from the left side at the 67:52 mark and Warner Pacific looked the more dangerous team. • Jack Andrade punched in the game winner in the 84th minute after a long free kick from White that was chested down by Vladan Valski. • Guizar added the insurance goal four minutes later, slipping a shot past NCU keeper John Castro who got his hand on the ball but could not keep it out.
