MU Drops First Home Game to Evergreen State

PORLTAND, Ore. – The Evergreen State College used a 23 shot advantage against Multnomah University to take a 7-0 Cascade Conference victory in the first ever home game for the Lions at Madison High School on Friday night.
With the loss, the Lions drop to 0-8 overall and 0-5 in the CCC while Evergreen improves to 6-1 and 3-1 in conference play.
Five different Geoducks scored on the night with four goals coming in the first period of play.
How it Happened: Evergreen State jumped on top quickly as Willie Spurr knocked a ball into the right corner of the net less than four minutes into the start of the match. The Geoducks added eight more shots before they finally scored their second goal 23 minutes later. MU finished off of the first half allowed two more goals, almost back to back, the first one by Ziggy Awad followed by Juan Lopez who tallied his second of the night.
MU started the second off much better offensively, coming up with three shots, two of which ended in saves. Evergreen eventually broke down the Lions defense, scoring two quick goals in the 72nd minute and the 73rd minute by Issa Hassan and Nate Boatright. Hassan would add his second goal of the night a few minutes later for the final score of the night.
By the Numbers: Evergreen totaled 29 shots on the night, 16 of which were on target compared to MU’s six shots. Tanner Williams totaled five shots, tied for the most on his team, and added three assists, all of which came in the first half. For the Lions, Michael Kochis finished with a team high four shots, including the only two shots on goal. In goal for MU was Manny Guillermo who finished the night with seven saves.
Coming up Next: The Lions will stay at home as they host Northwest at Portland Christian High School on Saturday while Evergreen State will head north to face Walla Walla.
