Corban competed at the Willamette Invite on Saturday in Salem.
SALEM, Ore. – Despite missing three of its top-five runners, the Corban University men’s cross country team still performed well at the 41st Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational on Saturday, gaining experience amidst tough competition.
“We had three of our top runners and team captain out,” said head coach Norm Berney. “The guys that ran had a good effort and we are looking forward to getting our full contingency of runners back, and luckily, none of the injuries are serious. We are looking forward to our next race at Lewis & Clark.”
Placing 17th overall, the Warriors were led by sophomore Zane West (Independence, Ore.), as West uncorked a season-best time of 26:26.9. West placed 63rd overall amongst a large field of runners. Not far behind him was junior Zach Steele (Oregon City, Ore.) with a time of 26:47.9.
Corban’s third runner was sophomore Drew Larabee (Beaverton, Ore.), as he clocked a time of 28:19.2, while junior Jonathan Kuzichev (Lancaster, Calif.) notched a mark of 28:54.0 and sophomore Calvin Vetter (Turner, Ore.) crossed the finish line in a time of 29:04.2.
Warrior track & field CCC champion (400 Meters) Nathan Swanson (Newberg, Ore.) was also on the cross country course today for Corban, finishing as Corban’s sixth-fastest runner in a time of 29:07.6.
The Warriors return to action On October 17 when they compete at the Lewis & Clark Invite in Estacada. Races are set to start at 11 a.m.
