Double-Double for Powell but UBC Beats Evergreen
VANCOUVER, B.C. - Danny Powell recorded his second consecutive double-double of the young season and Landon Rushton scored 15 points on Saturday night but it wasn't nearly enough to help The Evergreen State College, which dropped a 119-76 men's basketball contest to host University of British Columbia.
The Thunderbirds (5-1) had five players score in double figures, led by Luka Zaharijevic with 21 points off of the bench. Conor Morgan added 20 points and 10 rebounds for the winners.
Powell scored 12 points and grabbed as many boards after getting 15 points and 10 rebounds in a 91-82 loss at Trinity Western on Friday night. Rushton came off the bench to lead the Geoducks with 15 points in 24 minutes of action. Joining that duo in double-figure scoring was Jarrick Mitchell with 10 points. Brock Otis led the team with four assists.
Evergreen fell behind 31-15 after the first quarter and was outscored 38-16 in the third period as the T-birds shot 57 percent from the field, including 68 percent in the second half. The hosts also had a big 54-29 rebounding edge.
The Geoducks shot 37 percent from the field and just 20 percent from beyond the three-point line.
Evergreen returns to action on Monday night when it plays an exhibition game at Saint Martin's.
