SPRINGFIELD, Ore.- Steven Forbes made good on a 20-yard free kick in the 77th minute to lift No. 1 seed Rocky Mountain to a 1-0 victory over No. 3 Great Falls in the championship game of the CCC Men’s Soccer Championship Tournament presented by U.S. Bank.

The Battlin’ Bears (17-2-2) earn one of two automatic berths for the CCC to the NAIA National championship. As the tournament runner-up, Great Falls (13-6-1) has earned the other bid.

A fierce contest between the two Montana schools featured 15 total shots and 41 total fouls. The game was scoreless at the half after UGF was held without a shot and RMC had just one shot-on-goal.

After a foul by the Argos just outside the 18-yard box, UGF keeper Marc Girones was forced to the sideline to deal with an equipment malfunction. Henrik Sohn got the call for the ensuing free-kick, but Forbes’ rocket into the left of the net was too much to handle.

Both teams will learn their first round opponents on Monday November 16. Also hoping to hear their name called will be regular-season runner-up Corban University. The Warriors (17-2-1) are currently ranked No. 12 in the NAIA and are hoping to earn an at-large bid.
