SID's Experience Critical in Soccer Championships Success
LA GRANDE, Ore.- The saying "it takes a village" could not have been more accurate when it came to work of Sports Information last week at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Soccer Championships presented by U.S. Bank.
For the first time in the tournaments history sixteen teams converged on one location, Springfield, Oregon, to decide the men's and women's post season champions. With fourteen total matches on tap the job of organizing sports information coverage fell to tournament host NCU's SID Nick Askew. Askew arranged for some of the most talented SID's in the CCC to help with the tournament and things went off without a hitch.
The job of SID has evolved beyond the writing of a story and keeping statistics. In athletic departments today an SID needs to have expertise in the areas of video production, social media, various statistical programs, graphic design and marketing to name just a few. Add to that the public's desire to have the information on an ongoing basis and you can see why these positions have become so critical.
The tournament SID's had over six decades of combined experience and included; Nick Askew, NCU, Nick Dawson, TESC, Sam Ghrist, EOU/CCC, Mike Garrard, OIT, Danny Day, CRB, Jake Coburn, MU/CCC, Josh Wetmore,UGF and Peter Martin, CRB.
"Nick did an amazing job lining up sports info coverage," stated CCC Commissioner Rob Cashell. " I am not sure if anything in intercollegiate athletics has changed as much in the last 5-years more than Sports Information and our crew made the tournament a huge sucess in that area," added Cashell.
