KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Carroll College head coach David Thorvilson was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America NAIA West Region coach of the Year, the Association announced Thursday.

The award is the first of Thorvilson's career and follows his Cascade Conference Coach of the Year honors.

Carroll won the Cascade Conference regular season title with a 9-1-1 record and also snagged a tournament title en route to their first NAIA Tournament appearance since 2007.

The Saints tallied 12 shutouts on the season and Jaimie Carter was named the Cascade Defensive Player of the Year.

Carroll fell to eventual NAIA National Champion Spring Arbor 3-0 in the first round of the tournament. The Cougars were a buzz saw who weren't scored on in any of their NAIA Tournament games en route to the title.

Carroll returns a strong contingent of starters next season, including Carter.

Thorvilson is now in consideration for the national coach of the year award.
