Late Corban Run Sinks Owls
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech’s 10 point lead with 10 minutes to play disappeared as Corban University utilized a 19-0 run to sink the Owls, 66-57, in Cascade Collegiate Conference men’s basketball action this afternoon at Danny Miles Court.
Oregon Tech falls to 0-2 in CCC action and 7-2 overall. Corban improved to 1-1 in the conference standings and 5-3 on the season.
Oregon Tech gained an early five point advantage on a Bryan Beard layup, 7-2, before Corban rallied to move up five, 14-9, on an AJ Monterossi score.
The teams went back-and-forth, including four ties, before Zack Reed connected from beyond the arch to push the Owls to a 30-27 lead with 1:13 remaining in the first half.
Monterossi notched four-straight to close out the first half scoring, as the Warriors took a 31-30 advantage into intermission.
Neither team was impressive from the floor in the first half with CU connecting on just 36-percent of their field goals (13-of-36), while Tech was held to 29-percent shooting on 10-of-34. Monterossi led CU with 16 at the break with Moore 12 for the Owls.
With the Warriors up 33-32, Oregon Tech built a 49-39 lead on a Lavar Moore triple nearing the midway point of the second half.
The Warriors, however, marched to a 58-49 lead using a 19-0 run over the course of the next seven to lead by nine.
Austin Flint countered with back-to-back trey to pull Tech to within three, 58-55, with 2:57 to play. The Owls never got closer falling by a 66-57 final.
Oregon Tech was led by Lavar Moore with 20 points followed by Austen Flint with 15 points and five assists Andrew Weber and Bryan Beard grabbed a team-high six rebounds apiece with Weber handing out five assists.
AJ Monterossi scored a game-high 24 points for Corban with Caleb Dozier adding nine in the win. Monterossi and Dozier grabbed eight boards each.
