NAMPA, Idaho – The Eastern Oregon University track and field team wrapped out their 2015 indoor track and field season on Saturday at the BSU Team Challenge. EOU had six members of the team hit the NAIA "A" standard on Saturday.
Travis Simpson got the Mountaineers off to a great start during their last indoor meet of the season. For the fourth time, Simpson hit the NAIA "A" standard in the high jump. He cleared 2.07 meters (6-9 ½) as he went on to win the event. For the third time this season, Simpson won the high jump events. Simpson followed with a third place finish in the long jump as he jumped 6.75 meters (22-1 ¾).
Following Simpson to hit the NAIA "A" mark was
Megan Sullivan. Sullivan, who had hit the "B" standard at the Bronco Invite, ran a time of 58.30, one hundredths of a second faster than the NAIA "A" Standard. Sullivan finished fourth in the event and only finished behind NCAA Division I runners. She is the eighth person for EOU to qualify for the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships.
Hans Roelle hit the NAIA "A" standard in the 800 meter run. Roelle clocked a time of 1:53.30, the fastest time of the event, to finish first. This was his second fastest 800 meter run of the season.
For the fourth time this season,
Harley McBride hit the NAIA "A" standard in the high jump. McBride finished second, only behind Boise State's Jordan Ward. McBride cleared 1.69 meters (5-6 ½).
Becoming the ninth member of the EOU team to qualify for Nationals was
Lucas Updike. Updike qualified in the 3,000 meter run as he finished the race in a time of 8:39.53 Updike hit the "A" standard by 47 hundredths of a second. He finished second in the event. Updike finished behind Idaho State's Jacob Campbell.
The Mountaineers ended the meet on a high note as the women's 4x400 meter relay team composed of
Megan Sullivan,
Emma Kost,
Kendall Current and
Ashanna Hodge hit the NAIA "A" standard. EOU finished in a time of 3:58.45, two seconds faster than the "A" standard. EOU finished second in the event.
Isaac Updike was just off the "A" standard in the in the 1,000 meter run. Updike was the fastest competitor in the 1,000 meter run as he finished with a time of 2:31.77 to hit the NAIA "B" standard.
In the 1,000 meter run,
Rachel Roelle broke the EOU school record as she ran a time of 3:10.64. She broke a school record that was set in 2007 by Marcella Bosch.
In the men's 400 meter run, Phil Gravatt ran the third fastest team on the EOU All-Time list as he ran a time of 50.01 to finish in ninth place. Also moving up on the All-Time lists was
Kendall Current. Current ran the third fastest time in the 60 meter dash, 7.99, and followed that up with the third fastest time in the 200 meter run, 25.76.
EOU returns to action when on March 5-7 when they head to the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships, which are held in Geneva, Ohio.
