Three Eagles Qualify for NAIA Indoor Nationals
SEATTLE, Wash. - It's was a sunny Sunday outside in Seattle, but even brighter in the Dempsey Indoor Facility on the campus of the University of Washington for Eagles athletes as three of them qualified for the NAIA Indoor National Championships today.
NU freshman Cassidy Brown, who's already made a trip to the 2014 NAIA cross country nationals, has met the NAIA qualifying "B" standard in the indoor mile with a 5:10.01. Senior Charnie Dondrea is headed for Geneva, Ohio as she met the NAIA "B" standard with a 6
th place finish out of 32 competitors as she cleared 1.63m (5-04.25). She also finished first in her flight.
For the men, Jonathan Ferguson will be returning to the indoor nationals as he ran a 4:20.32 to meet the NAIA "B" standard in the men's indoor mile and punched his ticket to the nationals.
Meagan Governor ran a 5:26.78 in the women's mile run. Michelle (Snider) Perez won her heat and finished 22nd in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.64 competing against a solid field of NCAA Division I and II athletes. There were 44 hurdlers entered in the event. Perez also took 12
th in the long jump with a leap of 5.08m (16-08.00). In the women's 3000m run, Meagan Governor ran the distance in 11:01.08 and Emily Sears was right behind her with an 11:11.44. Governor also took part in the mile run and finished the distance in 5:26.78. Alexa Lindseth took 12
th in the shot put with her throw of 12.40m (40-08.25) in a field of 26 participants.
In the men's 1000m run, Jonathan Ferguson and Kyle Cole finished 8
th and 9
th with Ferguson finishing in a time of 2:34.93 and Cole in at 2:35.19. Dean Willis ran a 2:48.71 in the event. Willis ran the men's mile run in 4:26.69 for third in his heat and 32
nd out of 70 runners in the event.
