Matteri Leads Oregon Tech to 67-45 win over Concordia
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech limited Concordia to 30 percent shooting, held a decisive 50-28 advantage on the boards and Reb Matteri scored a team-high 20 points to lead the Owls past the Cavaliers 67-45 tonight in Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s basketball action at Danny Miles Court.
Oregon Tech improved to 8-9 in CCC play and 19-10 on the season. Concordia fell to 12-14 on the season and 6-11 in the conference standings.
Nearly three minutes into the game Karly LeVeque scored the game’s first basket and the lead held for the Owls throughout.
Oregon Tech held the same two point margin, 17-15, just past the midway point of the opening stanza but would use a 9-0 push, taking their first double digit lead, 26-15, on a Tess Armstrong jumper with 4:53 on the clock.
Back-to-back Ashleigh Vandenbrink triples closed out the scoring in the first period with Tech leading 34-19 at the break.
The Owls scored the first four points of the second half to lead by as many as 19 points, 38-19, before CU made their move and cut their deficit to 11 with 11:42 to play.
With 5:05 remaining CU trailed by the same margin, 52-41, but Reb Matteri took over for the Owls, hitting 3-pointer to bump the lead back to 14, 55-41. Another Matteri trey, along with back-to-back steals that led to layups for Tech, gave the Owls a 24 point cushion and their largest lead of the contest with under two minutes on the clock.
CU connected for the games last score with the Owls securing the 67-45 win.
Reb Matteri led four Owls in double-figures with a team-high 20 points. Matteri grabbed five rebounds and handed out five assists to go with three steals in the win. Ashleigh Vandenbrink scored 14 points off the bench and handed out four assists where Tech recorded a total of 19 versus just nine turnovers on the night. Tess Armstrong added 11 points and Megan Whetstone a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 10 boards.
Oregon Tech finished 23-of-61 (37.7 percent), including a 7-of-21 effort from long distance.
Sierra Dean notched a game-high 21 points to lead the CU offense with Jordyn Peacock adding 14 for the only two CU players to reach double-digit scoring. Peacock grabbed seven rebounds with Dean handing out three assists.
