Boxers Take Two From Eagles
FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Pacific University used good pitching and defense to sweep a doubleheader from Northwest University this afternoon, 3-2, 5-2, in non-conference play. NU made good contact with their bats, but the Boxer defense seemed to be in the right place at the right time to make a play. NU put together 7
th inning rallies in both games which fell short.
Marissa Reichard scattered four NU hits adding 8 strikeouts in the first game as the Boxers (5-3) scored two in the first and one in the fourth inning for the victory. Reichard held off a late 7
th rally by the Eagles as NU came up with two runs in the inning.
Pacific would go up early as they would get two runs in their half of the first inning. They scored another run in the 4
th inning when Reichard helped her cause with a pinch hit single left center scoring teammate Chan.
The Eagles would manage just one hit until the top of the 7
th inning when NU mounted a comeback and Ricki Tacdol led off with a single. Savannah Rush got on base as the Boxers’ centerfielder dropped a fly ball, scoring Courtney Gain who had come in to pinch run for Tacdol. Janey Ganta they reached base on a fielder’s choice and Rush was tagged out at home trying to score. Bethany Bacon then stepped in and singled to left field, scoring Ganta. Cara Cristion doubled down the right field line moving Bacon to third, but the rally would end with a strike out to give the Boxers the win.
Bethany Bacon went 1 for 3 with a RBI for Northwest U (3-2). Cara Cristion was 1 for 2 while Katelyn Riedinger each Ricki Tacdol had a hit for the Eagles.
In the second game, three Pacific pitchers gave up 9 hits to Northwest U as they would register a 5-2 victory. Alyssa Burns picked up the win in the circle for the Boxers as she went two innings giving up two Eagle hits.
The Boxers (6-3) would get all the runs they would need in a big 5
th inning where they put together five runs on four hits and capitalized on two Eagle errors. They left three runners on base.
NU got one run back in the 6
th inning when Cara Cristion hit a two out double to left center. Kelli Peckham advanced to third and scored when Lexie Robbins came through with a single to center field making it a 5-1 ball game. The Eagles got their final run in the 7
th inning. Back-to-back singles by Makayla Scoggins and Courtney Cox put two runners on base. Katelyn Riedinger then singled to left field, but Cox was out at third. Janey Ganta then hit a sacrifice fly to right scoring Courtney Gain who had come in to pinch run for Scoggins. Pacific held on and ended the game on an Eagle pop up fly.
Cara Cristion went 2 for 3 for Northwest U (3-3) while Lexie Robbins came off the bench to go 1 for 1 and add a RBI. Janey Ganta had the other RBI for the Eagles. Makayla Scoggins had a 2 for 3 day and Courtney Cox went 1 for 2.
