Thibault Career-High Leads Oregon Tech by Warner Pacific on Senior Night
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Senior guard Carrie Thibault (pictured-middle) ended her four-year career at Danny Miles Court with a career-high 21 points to lead Oregon Tech past Warner Pacific College 87-76 tonight in Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s basketball action.
The Owls improved to 20-10 overall, their fourth-straight 20+ win season, and with a 9-9 mark in CCC action finished fifth in the conference standings. The Owls will travel to Evergreen State for the first round of the CCC tournament. WPC season comes to end at 11-19 overall and 4-14 in CCC play.
Oregon Tech and Warner Pacific battled through seven ties over the first 15 minutes of action before Karissa Harbick trey put the Owls up 36-33. It was a lead they would not relinquish.
Tech went up five twice, before a Kyeli Hendryx 30-footer at the buzzer closed the WPC deficit to two at 40-38 at the half.
The teams continued to go at each other with Tech holding a 62-57 edge at the midway point of the second half. Tess Armstrong capped a 6-0 run with a pair of free throws giving the Owls their first double-digit lead of the game with 8:47 remaining.
WPC would get it back to eight on a Hendryx triple but Thibault answered from long range to make it 75-64 with just over five minutes on the clock.
WPC managed to close to seven on three occasions, the last with two minutes to play, but that would be as close as the Knights would get, as the Owls held on for the 87-76 win.
Thibault added eight assists and four rebounds to her career-high 21 to lead Tech to the win. Tess Armstrong added 19 points with Megan Whetstone 16 points and seven boards and Ashleigh Vandenbrink 14. Seniors Reb Matteri (right), coming off a 20 point performance last night, and Brittney Garrett (left) scored two each.
Lindsey Loe, playing in foul trouble scored a team-high 17 points to lead the Knights. Kyeli Hendryx netted 14 and Megan Tullis 11 in the loss.
Both team scorched the nets from long distance with WPC hitting 10-of-20 and Tech 11-for-24. The Owls shot 54.9 percent overall with the Knights knocking down 43.5 percent of their tries. WPC held a 32-31 edge on the boards.
