LA GRANDE, Ore. – The 2015 CCC Women’s Basketball Championship presented by U.S. Bank saw two upsets in the quarterfinal round as the remaining teams prepare for the semifinals beginning tonight in Ashland, Ore. and La Grande, Ore.
#6 Northwest Christian (13-14, 8-10 CCC) at #1 Eastern Oregon (25-5, 16-2 CCC)
7 p.m. PST – La Grande, Ore.
The first semifinal matchup features sixth-seeded Northwest Christian traveling to top seeded, 17
th-ranked Eastern Oregon after NCU pulled off the upset over third-seed Corban to advance.
After trialing at the midway point in the game, the Beacons fought back to earn the semifinal spot against the Warriors. With six seconds remaining in the game, a layup by senior Melyssa Weber put NCU up for good 60-59.
Eastern Oregon improved its winning streak to 11 games Tuesday, defeating eighth-seed Concordia 70-63 at home to move on to the next round of the tournament. Three Mountaineers scored double-figures in the quarterfinal game as EOU led by as much as 16 points.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. as both teams play for a spot in the finals of the conference tournament.
#5 Oregon Tech (21-10, 9-9 CCC) at #2 Southern Oregon (26- 3, 15-3 CCC)
7 p.m. PST – Ashland, Ore.
A rematch of last year’s conference finals game, fifth-seeded Oregon Tech will head to Ashland, Ore. to take on second-seed and eighth-ranked Southern Oregon.
Southern Oregon cruised past seventh-seeded College of Idaho in the quarterfinal round winning 78-63. The Raiders jumped out to a commanding lead in the first four minutes, leading 27-4 over the Yotes. Five different Raiders reached double-figures on the night including senior Ashley Claussen who totaled 13 points, nine rebounds and seven assists,
Oregon Tech earned the semifinal spot winning on the road against fourth-seeded The Evergreen State College. The Owls used a crucial 14-4 run late in the half to take a slight lead over Evergreen before finally putting the game away, OIT had four players score double figures including junior Karly LeVeque who had 20 points on the night.
Southern looks for the third straight win against OIT after completing the regular season sweep, tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The winners of Friday’s game will meet on Monday, March 2, for a chance to play for the conference championship.
