Corban Women’s Soccer Announces First Wave of 2015 Recruiting Class

SALEM, Ore. – Corban University Head Women’s Soccer Coach Marty Ziesemer announced the first wave of his 2015 recruiting class on Wednesday morning, naming eight players who would be joining the Warrior women’s soccer program in the fall of 2015.

“As a coaching staff, we are very excited about this first group of signees for the 2015 class,” said Ziesemer.  “They bring great qualities in character, talent, work ethic, and a desire to compete.  Additionally they love the fact that they can grow in their faith while playing soccer at Corban.” 

“With our conference changing a bit, we have a great nucleus of talented players returning and this group will add to that core as we compete to win the conference.

Alizabteth Bigger – Defense – 5’ 9” – Bonanza HS – Nev.

Hailing from Las Vegas, Nev., Bigger comes to Corban following an accomplished high school career.  While leading her team to two-straight Nevada State Playoff appearances, she was a team captain during both her junior and senior seasons.  During that time, she garnered All-League accolades for her efforts on the field.  With her club team, Bigger led her team to the Mayors Cup Showcase Championship in 2014. 

A multi-sport athlete, she also played on the varsity basketball team and collected First-Team All-League honors.  Additionally, Bigger competed on the varsity track & field team for two years.

Bigger plans to major in Exercise Science at Corban.

“Alizabeth is a player that we are thrilled on what she brings to the program in terms of physicality and ability to win the ball out of the back.  She is a player that is determined to be successful and it shows in her play on the field.  Her speed and quickness are areas that we are looking forward to helping us be even more successful in the back line.”

Heidi Fronk – Def/Mid – 5’ 4” – King’s Way Christian HS – Wash.

Hailing from Vancouver, Wash., Fronk has committed her talents to Corban after an accomplished soccer career to date.  A First-Team All-League honoree, Second-Team All-State award-winner as a junior, and First-Team All-State member as a senior, and All-Region Team member, Fronk brings loads of experience and talent to Corban.  A varsity soccer player throughout her high school career, she also played her club ball with the FC Portland Team that won the State Championship.  On top of that, she played for Oregon’s ODP Region Four Semi-Finalist team while also qualifying individually for the Regional Camp.  A versatile athlete, Fronk also played on the varsity tennis team for three years.

Fronk plans to major in Human Performance at Corban.

“Heidi is a player that has a significant amount of experience to bring to Corban.  Her ability to defend, be physical and win the ball are traits that will allow her to contribute to our program right away.”

Hope Frye – Mid/Def – 5’ 2” – Grants Pass HS – Ore.

Hailing from Grants Pass, Frye will bring her talents to Corban in the fall of 2015.  A three-year Varsity-Team member and one-year track participant, Frye also played seven years for the GPUSC Storm.  On that team, she led the squad to a Rogue Cup Championship and was twice a runner-up in the tournament.

Frye intends to major in ministry at Corban.

“Hope has a great work rate, she has fast feet to play in small spaces and is tenacious in her desire to win or keep the ball.  We look for Hope to provide us further depth in our defense and watch her develop over the next four years.”

Macy Goodwin – Defense – 5’ 5” – Idaho State Univ. – Century HS – Idaho

Transferring this spring to Corban from Idaho State University, Goodwin brings loads of talent to Corban.  As a First-Team All-League honoree every year in high school, she led the team to a second-place finish in the state in 2013 and a third-place finish in 2012.  Also during that time, she was awarded ‘midfield general’ during her junior season and was a captain as a senior.  She also competed with the Idaho ODP team and La Roca Soccer Club out of Utah.

Goodwin plans to major in Business at Corban.

“We are excited to have Macy as a part of the program.  She has a passion to compete and her understanding of the game will be vital in her role on defense.  She brings a variety of talents to the team as a player and as a person that will enhance our program in many ways.”

Makael de Hoop – Def/Mid – 5’ 6” – Henley HS – Ore.

Hoop finished out a stellar high school career this past fall and has committed her talents to Corban for the fall of 2015.  While captaining the team for three years, she garnered First-Team, Second-team, and Honorable-Mention All-Conference accolades during her career.  During her senior season, Hoop led the squad to the conference Championship and an appearance in the State Tournament quarterfinals.  Her junior year, Hoop led the team all the way to the State Tournament Championship game.  A versatile athlete, Hoop also played on the basketball team and ran track in high school.

Hoop plans to major in Exercise Science at Corban.

“Makael is a very strong, physical player who can play several positions for us in either the midfield or in the back line.  She will win the ball on a consistent basis.  Her abilities will provide us additional depth to our program.”

Emma Kosmala – Mid/Fwd – 5’ 3” – Lebanon HS – Ore.

Following a standout career during high school, Kosmala brings her talents to Corban for the fall of 2015.  As the team’s Most Valuable Player, First-Team All-League honoree, two-time Second-Team All-league award-winner, and one-time Honorable-Mention All-League honoree on the soccer team, Kosmala also excelled with her club teams.  In her senior year, she scored eight goals and 11 assists and was honored as a Second-Team All-State honoree.  On top of her club teams, she landed on the Oregon Olympic Development Program team, and then qualified for the Region Four pool thanks to her outstanding efforts on the field.

Kosmala plan to major in Pre-Occupational Therapy at Corban.

“Emma is an individual that will give us another speedy player on the outside.  She has a great work ethic and has the ability to get behind the defense with her quickness and also get back and defend.   Her desire to compete will allow her to compete for playing time as a freshman.”

Lexi McQueary – Forward – 5’ 7” – Kamiakin HS – Wash.

After an outstanding high school career, McQueary committed her talents to the Warriors beginning in the 2015 fall season.  As a four-year player on the varsity team in high school, she earned offensive MVP accolades twice and Second-team All-Conference honors as well.  During that span, she led her team to the league championship on four occasions.  Also a member of the track & field team, McQueary garnered Second-Team All-Conference honors for the 4x100 Relay, and helped the team win the State Championship three times.

Also a Scholar-Athlete nine times in high school, McQueary played for the Three-Rivers Premier Team and led the team to two Division Championships during her tenure with the team.

She plans to major in Sports Management at Corban.

“Having Lexi join the program provides for another offensive player.  She has the ability to finish consistently and will beat players with her speed of play. She sees the field very well and will find her teammate on the run with her passing ability.  She will add to our offensive game in many ways next season.”

Ashlyn van der Linden – Fwd/Mid – 5’ 6” – Murrieta Valley HS – Calif.

As a two-sport athlete from California, van der Linden competed on the soccer team in each of her four years at Murrieta Valley High School while also competing on the track & field team. As a junior, she scored four goals and had three assists, and at the halfway point through her senior year, she is one of the leading scorers on her team.  As a Scholar-Athlete, she garnered the track & field rookie of the year award on two separate occasions while ranking in the top-10 at her school as a part of the 4x100 Relay Team.  She played for Legends FC as her club soccer team.

She plans to major in Elementary Education at Corban.

“Ashlyn is a fast player that will provide an offensive threat for us.  She is a tireless worker on both sides of the ball and can be play multiple positions.  With her speed of play she will help us get behind the opponents defense consistently.”
