PORTLAND, Ore. – The No. 15-ranked Concordia University softball team opened league play in frustrating fashion, falling 9-8, 8-4 to No. 17-ranked Oregon Tech in a Friday afternoon doubleheader at Delta Park.

Oregon Tech (18-6, 2-0 Cascade Collegiate Conference) had little trouble finding offense, collecting 20 hits over the two games and scoring in the first inning in both contests.

OIT next places Northwest Christian in Eugene on Mar. 20 in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. Concordia (19-9, 0-2 CCC) meets Northwest University on Mar. 17 in a doubleheader scheduled for noon.

Game 1 Recap: Oregon Tech 9, Concordia 8 (8 inn.)

The first game in the doubleheader went an extra inning thanks to a 4-run Concordia rally in the fifth, but in the top of the eighth it was the Hustlin' Owls who came up big, as Tara Moates' 3-run homer to left field provided the game-winning spread.

Now faced with a 9-6 deficit, Concordia (19-9, 0-2 CCC) got two runs on walks with the bases loaded, but couldn't find the final equalizer as OIT reliever Ann-Marie Guischer forced a fly to right to end the contest.

Going 3 for 5 at the plate, gave the Owls the lead in the top of the first inning, driving in McKenzie Shrum and later coming home herself for a 2-0 lead.

Jessi Duncan got the win for Oregon Tech, which outhit Concordia 11-7.

Meghan Luebbert led CU with a 2 for 3 performance that included two runs scored and two RBI.

Game 2 Recap: Oregon Tech 8, Concordia 4

The Cavaliers got off to an inauspicious start, falling behind 5-0 in the first inning following Tasha Silvius' 3-run double to right while facing two outs. OIT increased to margin to 7-0 with single scores in the second and the fourth.

Concordia battled back to 7-4 deficit in the next two innings with Destinee ChangJamie MartinRylleigh Zbaraschukand Taylor Copher each driving in a run, but it wasn't enough, as OIT reliever Jessi Duncan faced just one batter over the minimum over the final two innings to pick up the save.

Ann-Marie Guischer earned the win for Oregon Tech, picking up starter Tre Sullivan in the fifth inning.
