KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the 2014-15 Division II Men’s Basketball All-America teams. Dominez Burnett of Davenport (Mich.) was named the NABC-NAIA Division II National Player of the Year. The All-America Teams are selected by the NAIA All-America committee.
Burnett (pictured top left), a 6-foot-5 junior forward, ranked No. 11 in the NAIA Division II in scoring (21.9). The 2014-15 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Player of the Year hit double-figures in 36-of-37 games with a season high output of 32 on two occasions. Also in national statistics, Burnett was No. 16 in free throw percentage (.846) and No. 29 in field goal percentage (.552). He was tops on the team in rebounding (7.1) and assists (3.1). The Panthers had their season end in the national semifinals on Monday in an 80-51 loss to Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.).
Cornerstone (Mich.), who captured the 2015 NAIA Division II National Championship, placed Kyle Steigenga on the All-America First Team and Ben Lenning on the Third Team.
Cornerstone head coach Kim Elders was honored as the NABC Division II Men's Basketball Coach of the Year and Matt Wilber of Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) was named the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Coach of the Year.
Elders, who finished his 22nd season at Cornerstone, engineered the third championship-winning squad after his Golden Eagles won by a 66-45 count over Dakota Wesleyan on Tuesday. He entered the season No. 7 for wins amongst active NAIA Division II coaches and fourth in win percentage. He currently holds a 561-217 career mark after going 33-5 this season.
Wilber of Dakota Wesleyan took the Tigers to the elite contest on Tuesday for the first time in program history. Prior to this year, Dakota Wesleyan never advanced past the national championship second round. Wilber completed his second year and now holds a 50-19 overall record.
