LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Cascade Collegiate Conference will be well represented in the men’s and women’s NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships as 71 athletes from the CCC head to Geneva, Ohio to compete for a title.
 
Concordia sends a conference best 27 athletes to Ohio followed by Eastern Oregon with 16 and College of Idaho with 11 athletes.
 
For the men, Concordia’s Matthew Clowes holds the fastest time in the prelims for the one-mile run (4:00.16) and the fastest time in the men’s 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:07.38. Austin Collins and Demetrius Perkins head into the event for the Cavaliers with the third and fourth fastest times in the men’s 800-meter run at 1:53.24 and 1:53.33 respectively.
 
Southern Oregon will attempt to go for a three-peat of the men’s distance medley after clocking in the fastest time at prelims at 10:01.72. The Cavaliers are not too far way with the fourth fastest qualifying time in the event at 10:12.72.
 
Hans Roelle of Eastern Oregon will look for an individual title in the men’s 1,000-meter run after clocking in the fastest time in prelims at 2:27.51. Others headlining for the Mountaineers are Isaac Updike who holds the third fastest time in the men’s 3,000-meter run (8:28.20) and Travis Simpson who captured the sixth highest mark in the men’s high jump at 2.11 meters.
 
The Evergreen State College’s Anthony Johnson will enter the weekend with the second highest qualifying mark in the men’s high jump at 2.16 meters, as he looks to take a title for the Geoducks.
 
On the women’s side, College of Idaho’s freshman Amy Pfaff will look to outdo her performance in the prelims clocking in the seventh fastest time in the women’s 800-metter at 2:15.66.
 
The Cavaliers continue to have a strong showing with McKenzie Warren holding the third farthest shot put at 14.59 meters while Mikel Elliot clocked in at 10:06.79 in the women’s 3,000-meter run, the fourth fastest prelim time.
 
Eastern Oregon’s Talitha Fagen secured the fourth highest pole vault performance in the grouping at 3.75 meters while Harley McBride cracked the top ten in women’s high jump at 1.70 meters.
 
Other CCC athletes to look for are Southern Oregon’s Amelia Maguin, who holds the seven fastest time in the women’s 400-meter dash (57.49) and Oregon Tech’s Mary Matchett who clocked the ninth fastest time in the women’s 3,000-meter run at 10:15.96.
 
Last year, the Oklahoma Baptist women took home the championship for the second year in a row while Indiana Tech won the men’s championship.

The championships start today, Thursday, March 5, and go through Saturday, March 7, in the SPIRE Institute Track and Field Sports Complex in Geneva, Ohio.
