Eagles Take Game Two to Earn Split with Mountaineers

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University and Eastern Oregon split today’s CCC doubleheader as EOU came from behind to take the first game, 4-2, and Northwest U took game two, 5-3.

Game 1 – Lindsey Walchli threw a two-hitter and the Mountaineers would come away with a 4-2 come-from-behind victory.

Eastern Oregon took an early 1-0 lead when Shelby Baertsch scored on an Eagle error. Northwest U came back to take a 2-1 lead in the 3rd inning when Darian Godfrey and Katelyn Riedinger each hit back-to back doubles driving a run a piece.

Neither team would score until EOU put together three runs on three hits in the top of the 6th. Shelby Baertsch doubled to left field scoring Haley Hess and pinch runner, Maryssa Santi. Cassie Wendt then doubled to left driving in Baerstch from second base giving EOU a 4-2 lead.

Walchli would hold Northwest U hitless the final four innings for the win (10-16). NU’s pitcher, Kelli Peckham, went 7 innings giving up six hits and struck out six for the loss (4-11).

Katelyn Riedinger went 1 for 2 with a RBI for Northwest U while teammate Darian Godfrey was 1 for 3 with a run batted in.

Shelby Baertsch led Eastern Oregon with a 2 for 3 day and two RBI’s. Cassie Wendt was 2 for 4 and added a RBI for the Mounties.

Game 2 – Home runs by Ricki Tacdol and Katelyn Riedinger helped lift Northwest U to a 5-3 win in the second game of the twin bill.

After two scoreless innings, Eastern Oregon struck first in the third when Haley Hess tripled past the NU centerfielder and then scored on a throwing error to put the Mountaineers up 1-0. NU came back in their half of the third inning when Katelyn Riedinger hit an 0-2 pitch over the left field fence for her 8th home run of the season to tie the game at 1-1.

Northwest U would pick up two runs in the 4th and 5th innings when Ricki Tacdol would hit a 2-run home run to left center in the 4th inning scoring Kierston Perry in front of her. They added two more runs in the 5th inning when Savannah Rush came through with a two-out double scoring Riedinger and Alyssa Gonzalez to increase the Eagle lead to 5-1 off reliever Lindsey Walchli.

Eastern Oregon would not go away easily as they mounted a rally in the top of the 7th. Haley Hess scored on a fielder’s choice with two outs and Marisa Gonzalez singled through the right side scoring McKenna Michelson. Hannah Yelas came into relieve NU starting pitcher Kierston Perry and got Samantha Scott to fly out to end the game with two EOU runners on base and earn the save.

Ricki Tacdol and Savannah Rush each went 1 for 3 for Northwest U (10-20, 6-16 CCC) with two RBI’s each. Katelyn Riedinger continued her hot hitting with a 1 for 2 day and added a RBI. Kiertson Perry earned the win (5-7) with Yelas getting the save.

For Eastern Oregon (16-23, 7-15 CCC), Haley Hess was 2 for 3 and Marisa Gonzalez was 2 for 4 with one RBI for the Mountaineers. Ashley Driscoll took the loss (4-5) for EOU going four innings for the Mounties.
