No 12 Oregon Tech takes Two of Three from No. 23 Corban
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – In a battle for first place in the Cascade Conference it was No. 12 Oregon Tech winning two of three games from Corban (3-2 GM1), (10-2 GM2), (4-8 GM3) Friday afternoon at the OIT Softball Complex. Oregon Tech also wins the season series three games to one. Tech improves to 33-11 on the season and 17-5 in CCC play and will host Northwest Christian on senior day, Saturday at 11:00 am to wrap up its home conference season. Corban drops to 31-11 and 14-6 in CCC play and will travel to Southern Oregon on Saturday.
Game 1 - Rylee Carleton went the distance in the circle picking up her 11th win of the season and Sadie Birch hit a two-run home run in the top of the 6th as No. 12 Oregon Tech downed No. 23 Corban University 3-2 in the first game of the tripleheader.
Ariel Fulkerson had 3-hits to lead the OIT offense in game 1. Oregon Tech left 14 on base in game 1 including the bases loaded twice. Danielle Ackerman had 2-hits to lead the Warrior offense.
Jessica Holsinger picked up loss for Corban to fall to 9-3 on the season.
Game 2 – After Corban went down in order in the top of the first, Tech’s McKenzie Shrum singled, then stole second and later scored on a Tara Moates RBI single to give OIT the 1-0 lead.
Corban answered with a run on 4-hits in the top of the second inning to chase Tech starter Jessi Duncan. Rylee Carleton entered with the bases loaded and got Eilders to hit into a double play to get out of the inning tied at 1.
Tech scored 4-runs in the third inning on 2-hits including a Tre Sullivan 3-RBI double to give the Owls a 5-1 lead. Corban scratched across a run in the top of the 4th on 2-hits highlighted by a Kylie Durre RBI single to make it a 5-2 game.
Oregon Tech took command of the game scoring 5-runs on 6-hits in the bottom of the 4th to take a 10-2 lead, highlighted by a McKenzie Shrum double. Corban threatened in the top of the 5th but stranded 2-runners as the game ended 10-2 via mercy rule.
Rylee Carleton picked up her second win of the day to improve to 12-3 on the season as pitched the final three and two-thirds allowing just 2-hits with 5-strikeouts. Tre Sullivan had 3-hits with Shrum, and Moates adding 2-hits each to lead the Tech offense in game 2.
Durre had 2-hits to lead the Warriors at the plate. Emily BuhrKuhl picked up the loss giving up 11-hits and 10-runs, 9-earned in four innings of work.
Game 3- Corban jumped on top with 6-runs on 4-hits including a grand slam homerun off the bat of Taylor Eilders to chase OIT starter Ann-Marie Guischer.
Tech answered with 3-runs on 2-hits highlighted by a Moates 2-run double in the bottom of the first. Corban added a run in the 2nd inning to take a 7-3 lead. The Owls grabbed one run back in the bottom of the 2nd on an RBI single from Sullivan to make it a 7-4 game. The Warriors added a run in the top of the 4th inning to take an 8-4 lead.
Corban would close out Tech over the final 3 innings to salvage the final game of the tripleheader winning 8-4. Sabrina Boyd pitched 7-innings in relief of Holsinger, taking over in the 1st inning with no-outs. She gave up just one run over 7-innings on 7-hits to improve to 5-2 on the season.
Guischer pitched just two-thirds of an inning giving up 6-runs in the first to pick up the loss and fall to 9-3 on the season.
Anne Binschus had 4-hits with adding 2-hits and the grand slam home run to lead the Warriors.
Moates and Tasha Silvius had 2-hits apiece to lead the Owls attack.
