Track and Field Hits Five NAIA Standards at Spike Arlt Invite
EOU saw two school records fall at Spike Arlt Invite

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University Track and Field Teams both finished second at the Spike Arlt Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Central Washington University. The men's team collected 98 points and the female's team collected 103 points.
The Mountaineers hit three NAIA "A" standards, two NAIA "B" standards and broke two school records on the day.
Talitha Fagen broke her own school record in the women's pole vault. Fagen hit the NAIA "A" standard for the second time this season. She cleared 3.75 meters (12-3 ½), which is the second best mark in the NAIA this season, to win the event. This is the second time this season Fagen has broken the pole vault record.
Hitting the NAIA "A" standard in the high jump was
Harley McBride. This is the second time this outdoor season. McBride cleared 1.68 meters (5-6) to win the event.
Improving on her NAIA "A" standard in the 400 meter hurdles was
Ashanna Hodge. Hodge ran a time of 1:02.82, the sixth fastest time in the NAIA this season. Hodge finished second in the race, four hundredths of a second behind the winner. Her time is the fourth fastest time on the EOU All-Time list.
Hodge was not done as she hit the NAIA "B" standard in the 100 meter hurdles. She ran a time of 15.04 breaking the EOU school record, which was set by Talia Hackney in 1988. With the time of 15.04, Hodge won the event. Her day was not done as she finished second in the women's triple jump. Hodge jumped 11.19 meters (36-8 ½), which is the second best jump in EOU history.
Hitting the NAIA "B" standard in the men's triple jump was
Travis Simpson. Simpson finished second in the event by jumping 14.28 meters (46-10 ¼), the second best mark in EOU history. He is the tenth athlete this season to hit the "A" or "B" standard in the event. Simpson also hit the "B" standard in the men's high jump. He finished second in the event by clearing 2.05 meters (6-8 ¾).
Recording her personal best in shot put was
Marta Stangel. Stangel finished second in the event by recording a throw of 12.41 meters (41-9 ¾). This is the fifth best throw in EOU history.
Improving on the men's 200 and 400 All-Time list was
Ryan Rosenau. Rosenau finished second in the 400 meter run as he clocked a time of 49.29, the sixth fastest in EOU history. Rosenau also ran the sixth fastest time on the EOU All-Time list, in the 200, with a time of 22.22, for a tie of fifth place.
Winning the 800 meter run was
Hans Roelle. He ran a time of 1:53.67 to win the event. He was 17 hundredths of a second away from the NAIA "B" standard in the event.
Moving to eighth on the EOU All-Time list was the Mountaineers' 4x400 relay team composed of
Philip Gravatt,
Tyler Zyph,
Ryan Rosenau and
Hans Roelle. They ran a time of 3:20.99 to win the event.
The Mountaineers return to action on Thursday, April 23 when they participate in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Multi-Event Championships. EOU will also compete on Friday, April 24 when they participate in the EOU Invitational. Both events are held in Hermiston, Ore.
