No. 19 Concordia leads after opening day of CCC Women’s Golf Championships

NORTH PLAINS, Ore.—Positioned for its ninth straight title, No. 19-ranked Concordia ended the first day of play at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Women's Golf Championships presented by U.S. Bank with a 34-stroke lead.
Playing at Pumpkin Ridge's Ghost Creek, Concordia (338-328—666) scored the lowest two rounds of the day with College of Idaho (357-343—700) firmly in second place in the team standings. Just three strokes separate Oregon Tech (366-388—754) and Corban (383-374—757) for third place while Warner Pacific (381-386—767) dropped one spot in the second round of action on Monday.
The defending champs occupy the top three positions in the individual standings with Kelsey Whiles (85-79–164), Abby Brennan (83-82—165) and Holly Winburn (79-87—166) entering the clubhouse with just a two-stroke separation.
College of Idaho's Gabrielle Giesbrecht (88-83—171) posted an 83 in the afternoon session to crack the top five with 18 holes to play. Lynsie Furuya (91-83—174), Concordia's fourth individual, rounded out the top five.
Oregon Tech was paced by Janelle Ferlan (84-92—176) who ended the day in seventh while Warner Pacific's duo of Taylor Akamine (88-89—177) and Scotti Jo Helmick (90-88—178) gave the Knights two representatives in the top 10. Akamine tied for eighth with Concordia'sMadison Alamillo (93-84—177) and Helmick holding at 10th.
Corban was led by Brooke Spencer (92-87–179) in the 11th spot.
The team with the lowest team stroke total at the end of the tournament and the individual medalist will earn an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships which is slated for May 12-15 in Pooler, Ga.
