Article ImageKANSAS CITY, Mo. – Despite significant movement throughout the poll, Faulkner (Ala.) continues it reign atop the 2015 NAIA Baseball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Tuesday. The Eagles have held the No. 1 ranking for four-consecutive weeks. Faulkner claimed 8-of-21 first-place votes and 567 total points in the seventh regular-season edition.
The Eagles are 8-4 in their last 12 games en route to a 40-11 overall record entering Tuesday. Faulkner, which currently rests in second-place in the Southern States Athletic Conference standings, closes the regular-season with a 3-game series against No. 15 Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) startingThursday.
Rounding out the top five this week are No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett (eight first-place votes and 565 points), No. 3 Oklahoma City (four first-place votes and 548 points), No. 4 Oklahoma Baptist (517 points) and No. 5 Northwood (Fla.) (one first-place vote and 514 points).
In total, 18 teams moved at least one position in the poll, including a seven-spot jump by No. 16 Northwestern Ohio. The Racers enter the week with a 35-9 record after winning 3-of-4 against then-No. 2 Davenport (Mich.). Additionally, the victories against the Panthers give Northwestern Ohio a 0.5-game lead in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference standings.
Other notable movement came from No. 13 Lewis-Clark State (Idaho). The Warriors, who moved five places this edition, have won nine-straight en route to a 36-10 record. Lewis-Clark State has been dominant during the winning streak, outscoring its opponents 118-25.
No. 22 Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) and No. 25 William Woods (Mo.) are this week’s newcomers. The Owls were last ranked in the preseason edition on Nov. 11, 2014, while Freed-Hardeman’s most recent mention came last season.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, the Association of Independent Institutions and the NAIA West Group. The eighth regular-season edition will be released on April 28.
The Sun Conference – Northwood, No. 18 Embry-Riddle (Fla.) and No. 21 St. Thomas (Fla.) – and the Golden State Athletic Conference – No. 8 The Master’s (Calif.), No. 11 Westmont (Calif.) and No. 19 Concordia (Calif.) – lead all leagues with three teams represented.
