NORTH PLAINS, Ore.—Setting a three-round championship record, No. 16-ranked Concordia University won its second straight and seventh overall Cascade Collegiate Conference Men's Golf Championship presented by U.S. Bank.
Finishing the three-round tournament at 18-over par, Concordia (282-295-293—870) posted a wire-to-wire win, finishing with a 42-stroke margin. The team score of 870 set a CCC Championship record by 11 strokes over Concordia’s 2010-11 team that carded an 881.
With the tournament win, Concordia earns an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships which is slated for May 19-22 in Daytona Beach, Fla.
No. 24-ranked Corban University (303-306-302—912) edged Oregon Tech (304-309-300—913) and Warner Pacific (306-307-300—913) by a single stroke for runner-up honors. College of Idaho (320-329-324—973) placed fifth overall.
Ryan Melnychuk (67-74-73—214) led a 1-2-3 finish for Concordia golfers, capturing medalist honors over teammates Kolton Kyne (71-71-76—218) and Jess Wingett (72-77-70—219).
Placing 15th on Tuesday, Corban’s Kade Crossland (75-81-75—231) held on in a tight battle for Player of the Year honors. Crossland finished the full CCC season with a 71.7 strokes per round average, nipping Melnychuk’s 71.9 average to become the first Corban golfer to earn Player of the Year honors since Joey Duwe (2009-10).
Melnychuk, Wingett and Kyne were joined by Dylan Cramer to give the Cavaliers four of the seven spots on the All-CCC squad. Corban’s Jared Lambert and Oregon Tech’s Josh Whitley rounded out the All-CCC team.
