SAN FRANCISCO/STANFORD, Calif. – One of the most lucrative days in Southern Oregon University track and field history yielded two school records and eight NAIA automatic-qualifying marks Friday at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival and Stanford Invitational.

Raider records fell at the hands of Jessie Rozario (Rocklin, Calif./Del Oro) in the women's 1,500-meter race and Eric Ghelfi (Redding, Calif./Redding Adventist Academy) in the men's 10,000 meters at the Distance Carnival, where NAIA 'A' qualilfying standards were also hit by Kevin Jorgensen (Yreka, Calif./Yreka) (1,500 meters), Rebecca Lupescu (Portland, Ore./Westview) (10K) and Max Runia (Central Point, Ore./Crater) (10K).

At the Stanford Invitational, Amelia Maguin (Fernley, Nev./Fernley) took second in her flight and fourth of 30 overall in the women's 400-meter hurdles, while Markus Sanders (Modesto, Calif./Carthage) became an automatic qualifier in the hammer and discus throws in his season debut.

NAIA 'B' provisional standards were reached by Ray Schireman (Medford, Ore./North Medford) (5K), Caleb Diaz (Medford, Ore./North Medford) (10K) and Danny Parks (Eugene, Ore.) (discus).

"I'm really proud of how well we competed against good competition," SOU coach Grier Gatlin said. "That's what we want to see: great efforts against championship-type fields. It's what will prepare us down the road for conference and nationals."

Rozario ran the 1,500 in 4:36.50 to break Brynn Cogdill's 11-year-old SOU record by nearly five seconds. She won her flight, coming from last place with 500 meters remaining to clock the fifth-fastest time in the NAIA this season.

"Rozario was phenomenal," Gatlin said. "That was one of the two or three best performances I've ever coached."

Ghelfi's 10K time of 30:24.90 broke the school record by over 15 seconds, was a personal-best by over 26 seconds and beat the NAIA automatic standard by more than 20. Runia ran a 30:50.63, putting him at No. 4 on the NAIA performance list, and Diaz clocked 31:18.77. In the same race, Connor Cushman (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) (31:37.34), Dylan Paulk (Portland, Ore./Grant) (32:21.07) and Will Parke-Hoffman (Corvallis, Ore./Corvallis) (33:15.53) each qualified for the Cascade Conference Championships.

In the 5K, Alexander's 14:17.19 topped the NAIA performance list by less than a tenth of a second for the second-fastest time in school history, beating the automatic qualifying standard by 28 seconds. Schireman's time of 14:45.96 missed an auto-qualifier mark by less than a second.

Jorgensen clocked an auto mark in the 1,500 in 3:52.20 – the third-best time in the NAIA this season and directly behind Runia's performance two weeks ago at Sacramento State. Boyd-Helm (3:59.56) wasn't far behind.

Lupescu PR'd in the 10K with a mark of 37:14.74, and Aspen Abbott (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) did the same in the 800-meter race at 2:16.48. Abbott's time was good for the third-best in Raider history and missed an NAIA 'B' time by just half a second.

Sanders, who was a double-All-American last season in the hammer and discus, gave himself a chance to do the same this year. He threw the hammer 178 feet 8 inches, good for No. 4 on the NAIA performance list. His official discus mark is not yet available.

Maguin – who already broke her own school record and ran the top NAIA time this season at 59.07 in the 400-meter hurdles at Sacramento State – clocked in at 60.15, which is also faster than any other individual in the nation has done it this year.

Parks registered 154-7 in the discus, just under the 155-4 he established a few weeks ago at Chico State.

SOU will send a group to tomorrow's Linfield Jenn Boyman Memorial Invitational, where the first event will begin at 10 a.m.
