MEN'S BASKETBALL HEADS BACK TO TAIWAN TO SERVE THROUGH BASKETBALL 5/11/2015 7:52:44 PM PORTLAND, Ore.– The Multnomah University men's basketball team is heading to Taiwan for a nine day ministry/basketball trip on May 9th through May 18th. This is the teams' fifth trip to serve in Taiwan under the leadership of twelfth year head coach, Curt Bickley. "We are looking forward to seeing old friends, spreading the Gospel, and playing basketball in a great place," said Bickley. "It is very exciting that our university has such an emphasis on mission work and that we get to take part in such a great trip." Taking "basketball mission" trips has been a staple of Multnomah basketball for over 40 years as hall of fame coach Jim Skagen took trips to France, Germany, Portugal and Romania in his 23 year tenure. Coach Bickley has continued the tradition of service as this trip to Taiwan will be the seventh over-seas ministry trip he has led. Coach Bickley has also taken his teams to serve at a Native American reservation in White Swan, Washington for the past eight years. The team will play nine games in their seven days abroad and will participate in other service/outreach opportunities. The team will be presenting the Gospel during half-time of each of the games along with speaking at schools, churches, and an assisted living facility. Last year their trip included eight games in six days including a charity game to raise awareness and money for kids with cancer organized by Taiwan super-star, Blackie Chen, in which over 1,000 people were in attendance. The "Lovelife" charity game is once again on the agenda for the Lions' 2015 trip.
