DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Corban University freshman men’s golfer Kade Crossland (Buhl, Idaho) signed his scorecard with a 73 on the first day of the 2015 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Men’s Golf National Championships, seeing him finish the day in good position, tied for 25th place. For Crossland, this is his inaugural appearance at the NAIA Championships.

Crossland began the day on the back nine at Hole No. 10, and after scoring a par on each of the first two holes he played on, he birdied holes 12 and 14 to move to two-under par through five holes. He remained that way until a bogey at Hole No. 18 put him at one-under par heading to the final nine holes of the day.

Crossland ran into some trouble on holes one and three, bogeying both holes prior to getting one back on Hole No. 5 with a birdie, bringing him to even for the day. With two holes left to play, he registered one bogey and a par to close out his first-ever round at the NAIA Championships, putting him at 73 total strokes on the day, just one-over par.

In total, Crossland registered three birdies, 11 pars, and four bogeys.

“Kade battled out there today,” said head coach Tom Graves. “He hit the ball well, but was a little timid on the greens. 73 was about as high as he could have shot today. I was proud with how he stayed mentally tough and bounced back after difficult holes.”

156 players make up the field for the 2015 men’s golf national championships, consisting of 21 automatic qualifying teams, seven at-large berths, the host institution, and seven individual qualifiers. Crossland is one of those individual qualifiers.

Crossland is set to tee off tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. EDT on hole No. 1, remaining with his threesome partners from round one --- Zach Day from Mobile (Ala.), and Daniel Thompsett of Rocky Mountain (Mont.).
