BOISE, Idaho – (Full Results) The Eastern Oregon University Track and Field team hit four NAIA "A" standards and two NAIA "B" standards on the second day of the Border Clash hosted by Boise State University. EOU saw two school records broken.
Travis Simpson started the Mountaineers off on the right foot. In the men's high jump, Simpson cleared 2.08 meters (6-9 ¾) finishing second in event. By clearing 2.08 meters, Simpson set a new outdoor personal best and hit the NAIA "A" standard.
Simpson was not done, as he also hit the NAIA "A" standard in the men's triple jump. Simpson jumped 14.67 meters (48-1 ¾) breaking the EOU school record in the event. He finished fourth in the event and became the first EOU men's jumper to qualify for Nationals in the high jump, long jump and triple jump.
Simpson's school record did not make it out of the day as
Hakeem Belle broke the record again in the finals of the triple jump. Belle finished second in the event by jumping an EOU school record 14.74 meters (48-4 ½), hitting the NAIA "A" qualifier.
The fourth and final NAIA "A" standard hit of the day came by defending NAIA 800 Meter National Champion,
Hans Roelle. After just missing the "B" standard the last two weeks, Roelle ran his fastest time of the season in the 800 meter run, 1:50.66, hitting the "A" standard. Roelle's time in the 800 meter run is the third fastest time in the NAIA this season.
Setting the school record in the 100 meter hurdles was
Ashanna Hodge, as she became the first EOU 100 meter hurdler to clock a time under 15 seconds in the event. Hodge, collected a time of 14.99, hitting the NAIA "B" standard and breaking the school record.
For the sixth time this season,
Harley McBride has hit either the NAIA "A" or "B" standard in the women's high jump and today was no different. Finishing sixth in the event, McBride cleared 1.66 meters (5-5 ¼), hitting the NAIA "B" standard.
The Mountaineers return to action next Friday, May 8 when they participate in the first day of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships presented by U.S. Bank.
