GULF SHORES, Ala. – For the second time in as many years, The Evergreen State College junior Anthony Johnson has finished second in the high jump at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Competing on Friday evening at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium, Johnson cleared 2.12 meters, or 6-11 1/2, the same height as event winner Michael Moffitt from Indiana Wesleyan. Johnson ended up placing second by virtue of missing on his first attempt at his opening height of 2.09 meters, or 6-10 1/4. Moffitt, meanwhile, cleared the bar on his first try at that height, and both he and Johnson cleared on their first attempts at 2.12 meters. Both jumpers missed all three of their attempts at 2.15 meters, or 7-0 1/2.

In two indoor and two outdoor national meets covering the last two years, Johnson has four times earned All-America honors by virtue of a trio of second-place finishes and a fifth-place performance at the 2014 indoor championships.

In addition to his Friday evening high jump exploits, Johnson also just missed another All-America finish in the long jump, placing ninth in that event by one-quarter of an inch.

Competing on Friday afternoon, Johnson leaped 7.19 meters, or 23-7 1/4, on his first attempt. Johnson held onto eighth place through the first five rounds before a fellow competitor moved past him and all the way into sixth place, moving the Geoduck standout off of the medal stand. Wendall Williams from Cumberlands (Kentucky) won the long jump with a mark of 7.57 meters, or 24-10.
