SALEM, Ore. – Corban University Head Volleyball Coach Kim McLain announced her first-ever recruiting class, naming seven players that would be joining the Warrior Volleyball squad in the fall of 2015.
“My staff and I are very excited for the upcoming 2015 season and what the future holds,” said McLain. “We are very fortunate to sign these quality athletes and have the privilege to welcome them to Corban University. I believe they will have an immediate impact on this program and will help us compete at a higher level! This group has the dedication to the game, passion for excellence, and fight to win which we feel will be contagious on and off the court. I am also excited how this group will complement our talented returners! Most of all, I believe they have the willingness to serve and represent Christ for Corban University!”
Amber Parker – 5’ 7” – Outside Hitter – Linn-Benton CC – West Albany HS – Ore.
Hailing from Albany, Ore., Parker comes to Corban after playing one season at Linn-Benton Community College. As a freshman, she swung her way to Second-Team All-League honors in the South Region of the Northwest Athletic Conference. During her prep career, Parker was a Second-Team All-State and Second-Team All-Conference performer at West Albany High School. In 2013, she led her team to the 5A State Championship. As a junior, she helped her squad finish second at the State Tournament.
Parker plans to major in Business Administration.
“Amber will make an immediate impact on the court as she has great ball control, court awareness and the drive to win,” said McLain. “She is a six-position player that has the ability to make a difference offensively and defensively! I had the privilege of coaching Amber during her club experience where she was a part of a CEVA championship where her will to win was infectious.”
Hannah Olson – 5’ 11” – Middle Blocker – Clackamas CC – Marshfield HS – Ore.
A middle blocker from Coos Bay, Ore., Olson joins the Warriors after playing two seasons at Clackamas Community College. While playing for the Cougars, Olson collected First-Team Southern Region accolades, and she also set a school record at Clackamas for the highest kill efficiency for a single match. In high school, Olson directed Marshfield to a third-place finish at the State Tournament en route to collecting First-Team All-League and Second-Team All-State honors.
Olson plays to major in Dentistry.
“Hannah Olson is coming to us with the experience at the next level,” said McLain. “She is a huge addition with her strength and quickness in the middle! Her ability to read and defend the opponent is few and far between! Her work ethic is top notch which will influence those around her!”
Madison McLain – 5’ 1” – Setter – Santiam Christian High School – Ore.
McLain joins the Warrior volleyball program after an illustrious career at Santiam Christian High School where she led the team to a trio of 3A State Championships. In addition to winning a state title during her senior campaign, she earned her second 3A State Player of the Year honor while directing her team to a conference championship. Voted the Team Captain and Team Most Valuable Player, McLain also notched her second-straight PacWest Conference Player of the Year accolade while collecting First-Team All-Conference plaudits.
Prior to a fantastic senior season, McLain was a three-time First-Team All-Conference performer while leading her team to three league titles. A four-year letter winner, McLain logged First-Team All-Tournament honors for three seasons, and she was also named the 3A State Championship Player of the Game during her junior campaign. McLain finished her career with an astounding 4,195 assists to go along with 482 service aces, 909 digs, and 203 kills. Moreover, she was honored by prepvolleyball.com as a top-150 player in the nation.
“Madison brings with her great strategy and knowledge of the game along with great ball placement for her hitters,” said McLain. “Her quickness and speed on the court will give us the opportunity to run a strategic and faster offense. She will also be an asset both defensively and with an aggressive serve! Madison has the passion and natural ability to find ways to win which is contagious!”
Haley Wells – 5’ 5” – Libero/Setter – Montana St. Univ. (Billings) – West Albany HS – Ore.
Wells comes to Corban after playing one season at Montana State University Billings where she appeared in 27 contests for the Yellowjackets. In 99 sets, she registered 420 digs and 74 assists. Prior to her collegiate debut, Wells was a three-year letter winner at West Albany High School. A standout setter, Wells led the team to back-to-back state titles and earned First-Team All-State plaudits in 2012. For three-straight seasons, she garnered First-Team All-league honors while directing her team to a trio of conference championships.
“Haley is one of best passers I have seen here in the Northwest,” said McLain. “Her defense and ability to read the opponent is second to none! With her experience and knowledge, having her on the court will allow us to compete at the next level! We look forward to her being a huge part of our success!”
Victoria Schroeder – 5’ 9” – Outside Hitter – Santiam Christian High School – Ore.
Schroeder signs with Corban after a standout career at Santiam Christian High School that saw her collect the 3A State Player of the Year honors during her senior campaign. A winner of three-straight State Championships, Schroeder earned First-Team All-Conference and First-Team All-State accolades her senior year while being named the West Valley Player of the Year. During that senior campaign, she racked up 247 kills, 137 digs, 47 service aces, and a 1.94 passing percentage. As a junior, she notched Second-Team All-League plaudits. An all-around athlete, Schroeder was an All-Conference performer on the women’s basketball team and was also a member of the Santiam Christian track & field squad.
Schroeder plans to become a Business major.
“Victoria’s work-ethic, dedication and her coach-ability make her a huge asset to our team,” said McLain. “She is always working hard and pushing those around her to be better! She is a six-position player that has the ability to be an impact this season. Victoria was a great asset to Santiam Christian’s championship success, and I look forward to her bringing that success to Corban!”
Kathryn Paratore – 5’ 10” – OPP – Santiam Christian High School – Ore.
One of three Warrior recruits from Santiam Christian High School, Paratore joins the Navy and Gold after playing four seasons on the varsity squad. During her final season, she booked First-Team All-Conference honors and was also named to the All-State First-Team. Paratore was also a two-time All-Conference performer on the softball team. In addition, Paratore was a member of the Santiam Christian squad that won three-straight State Championships.
Paratore intends to major in Exercise Science.
“Katy brings height and strength to our front line and has the ability to make an impact this season,” said McLain. “She is a great blocker and brings power in her attack. She too was a huge part of Santiam Christian’s championship success.”
Kinley Hickok – 6’ 0” – Middle Blocker – Grace Christian School – Alaska
A native of Anchorage, Alaska, Hickok joins the Navy and Gold after starting for three seasons on the varsity squad at Grace Christian School. During her senior year, Hickok collected Region MVP plaudits and was also named to the All-State team. In 2013, she steered her team to a State Championship as well as a Region Title. Hickok was a two-time Lady Grizzly Invitational All-Tournament performer, and during her senior year, she was the MVP of the Valdez Invitational. In addition to volleyball, Hickok was a member of the track & field team for two years.
Hickok intends to major in Criminal Justice.
“Kinley comes to us with athleticism, determination, strength and height,” said McLain. “The first time we saw her play, we were impressed with her quickness and her ability to block efficiently at the next level! Kinley has a huge upside and we are excited to begin working with her and having her as a part of our team!”
