KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Awards continue to pile up for freshman standout Tara Moates (Klamath Falls, Ore.), as the 2015 Cascade Collegiate Conference Player of the Year just picked up 2015 First-Team NAIA All-American honors, announced by the national office.  Junior centerfielder McKenzie Shrum (Glide, Ore.) was a NAIA All-American honorable mention selection.  Moates became Oregon Tech’s 17th player named to a NAIA All-American team.

Moates batted .479 leading the Owls to the CCC regular season softball title, as well as a 4th place finish at this year’s NAIA Softball World Series.  It was the second best finish for Tech after winning the NAIA crown in 2011. 

Moates’ 101 hits this season set a school and conference record for hits in a season. The utility player drove in 73 runs, including 14 homeruns and 12 doubles.  Moates led the CCC in batting average, hits, RBI and total bases.  She finished in the top 5 in on base percentage (.531), slugging percentage (.738), runs scored (58) and homeruns. 

Moates’ 101 hits topped the NAIA, while ranking No. 2 in total bases, No. 3 in RBI, No.6 in hits per game (1.60) and No. 9 in the NAIA in batting average.

After earning CCC 1st team accolades, Shrum was a NAIA honorable mention selection.  Shrum finished in the conference top 10 in batting average (.411), on base percentage (.498), RBI (47) and total bases (130).  Shrum led the league in runs scored (68) and was second in hits (86), triples (3), stolen bases (20) and steal attempts (20). 

Among national leaders, Shrum was ranked No. 5 in hits, No. 7 in runs scored and No. 18 in total bases.
