Men’s Preview
The Southern Oregon men’s team will look to repeat as CCC Champions on their home turf as they currently lead the conference in five events. The Raiders hold three of the top five spots in the 100m, the 1,500m and the 5,000m along with the top four finishers in the 10,000m. SOU senior Markus Sanders holds the top mark in both the discus (53.87m) and the hammer (58.9m).
Concordia sits close with Southern after finishing second in the championships last season losing by just 4.7 points in the team score. In the field events, the Cavaliers hold the top three marks in the shot put while finishing second in the hammer, second in the discus, and first in the javelin. Concordia will look to earn points on the track from senior Matthew Clowes, who is first in the 1,500m, and freshman Peter Seifert who holds the top mark in the 400m hurdles.
Eastern Oregon enters the meet with the top performers in the 800m, the 3,000m steeple the long jump and the triple jump. Senior Travis Simpson is first in the long jump and second in both the high and triple jumps.
Coming in to the championships, Corban will look for big finishes in the sprints. The Warriors hold the fastest times in the 200m and the 400m and are third in the 100m race. Corban also recorded the fastest times for the 4x100m and 4x400m relays.
Women’s Preview
College of Idaho will try to pull off a three-peat after winning the last two conference championships. Last year, the Yotes finished with 46 more points in the team score to take the title. COI holds either a first or second place mark in nine different events with junior Nichole DeGrange having the second fastest time in the 200m and 400m and freshman Amy Pfaff enters first in the 800m and second in the 1,500m.
Southern Oregon’s Amelia Maguin will do her part to help her team end the Yotes’ streak coming in to the championship event with the fastest marks in the 200m, 400m and 400m hurdles. Jessie Rozario leads the conference in the 1,500m with the Raider’s 4x800m relay team clocked in the fast finish in the CCC.
Concordia should have a strong performance in the throws as junior Warren McKenzie holds top marks in the hammer and shot put while senior Jessica Mattos is first the discus. The Cavaliers also recorded the second fastest times in all three of the relay events.
