Safford Earns CoSIDA Grant For National Convention
CALDWELL, Idaho – College of Idaho Director of Athletic Communications Mike Safford Jr. was awarded one of 20 grants to attend the 2015 College Sports Information Directors of America national convention in Orlando, Fla.
Safford, who begins his 15th year at the College this fall, received a complimentary convention registration and a $1,000 stipend to assist in travel expenses for the event at the Marriott Orlando World Center, this Sunday through Wednesday.
"I am honored to earn the grant from CoSIDA and excited for the opportunity for professional development at the convention," Safford said. "I hope that I can learn some new techniques and ideas that we can implement at the C of I to help with the promotion of our student-athletes and athletic teams."
The Convention Grant Attendance Program doubled in size for 2015 to 20 grants worth $800-$1,000 apiece. Each grant includes a complimentary convention registration, which is a change from 2014, allowing all of the grant funds to go toward hotel nights, transportation and per diem.
Safford will be busy while in Orlando, as he will assist with the CoSIDA Kickoff Reception; will present a table topic at the NAIA-SIDA meeting on "Writing for the Web"; and will sit on a panel regarding CoSIDA membership.
"It will be an amazing experience and will finally have the chance to meet some of the top media relations personnel in the NCAA and NAIA," Safford said.
