LA MIRADA, Calif. – The 16th-ranked Southern Oregon volleyball team banked résumé-building wins against Menlo (Calif.) and No. 8 Vanguard (Calif.) and dished a little payback Thursday at the Biola Summer Slam.

The Raiders opened the morning session with a 25-23, 25-17, 25-14 sweep of Menlo, last year's Cal Pac Conference co-champion. Then they got back at Vanguard, which knocked them out in the round-robin portion of last year's 2014 NAIA Championships, in 26-24, 23-25, 25-17, 25-20 upset fashion.

The new-look lineup had several stars in its season debut, most notably outside hitter Corynn Kopra (Gresham, Ore./Sam Barlow). The junior transfer, who redshirted last season, hit up Menlo for 10 kills before breaking out for 20 kills on 38 swings against Vanguard. She hit .403 on the day and contributed 13 digs in the afternoon session.

Senior Tyana Andrews (Rochester, Wash./Centralia) led a .320 attack in the opener with a career-high 16 kills (26 swings) and nine digs. Emma Gasman (Clovis, Calif./Buchanan) added 10 kills on 16 attacks and helped the Raiders close the match with an efficient .586 attacking average in the final set. Niki Small (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) chipped in six kills and was in on four blocks.

Andrews was again stellar against Vanguard with 12 kills and eight digs, and Laura Morse (Edmonds, Wash./King's) established career-bests with 16 kills, 10 digs and four blocks.

Lauren McGowne (Coos Bay, Ore./Marshfield), a junior setter, distributed 27 assists in the opener and 52 against Vanguard, eclipsing the 50-assist mark for the 12th time in her career. Kiley Barcroft (Dallas, Ore./Dallas) and Ashlyn Flynn (Phoenix, Ore./Phoenix) traded time at libero as Barcroft had 10 digs against Menlo and Flynn had a team-high 21 against Vanguard.

SOU, which attacked at a .250 rate in the Vanguard match, overcame Charlotte Heerlyn's 28 kills.

The Raiders will see a pair of Nebraska outfits on Friday: Bellevue at 8 a.m. and 22nd-ranked Hastings at noon.
