VANCOUVER, B.C. – The University of British Columbia (1-0-1) put on a potent offensive showing as they shutout Northwest University, 7-0, this afternoon in Thunderbird Stadium. UBC’s defense limited The NU Eagles to just one shot per half in the victory.

Taylor Shannik and Shayla Chorney each scored a pair of goals in the Thunderbirds’ win which saw the host team taking 19 shots. Shannik scored the game winner just 1:27 into the game as she scored unassisted from just outside box into the top left corner of the net for the 1-0 lead. Nicky Sydor made it a 2-0 game in the 29th minute taking Aman Shergill’s pass and putting the ball into the bottom right corner. Five of UBC’s goals then came in the second half with Chorney scoring back-to-back goals in the 53rd minute and at the 59:54 mark.

Northwest U’s (0-2-0) Lauren Patefield made two saves in 68 minutes of play and was replaced by Ashlyn Juul who played the remainder of the way making two more saves for the Eagles. Olivia de Goede earned the shutout in goal for UBC while playing the entire 90 minutes making one save. Kortney Hudak and freshman Bailey Travis had the one shot each for NU.

Both teams substituted freely in the contest with a total of 44 players seeing time on the field.

Northwest will return to Kirkland and host NCAA Division II Central Washington on August 29, at 1 p.m., on the NU Athletic field.
