INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. – One team found its new life in the NAIA to be pretty good in Southern Oregon University's men's soccer matchup Wednesday afternoon at Sierra Nevada College. The other, not so much.

Making their program debut, SOU poured on five goals in the first half and five more in the second for a 10-1 drubbing of the home team, getting two goals apiece from Ahmon Afenegus, Dakota Marquez and Johnnie Workman. Brett Butler, James Ramos, Brayan Molina and Daniel Zamores also tallied to stamp their names in the history books.

Marquez added two assists, while Afenegus, Molina, Zamores and Luis Ayala were each credited with one.

Cristopher Polido tallied in the first half for Sierra Nevada, which was also playing its first game as an official program.

"The guys were really happy to put on the uniforms and they did a lot of things to be excited about even though there's a ton to work on," SOU head coach Biniam Afenegus said. "They were businesslike in their approach."

The Raiders kept SNC busy by registering 53 total shots, 27 of which went on goal. Ahmon Afenegus assisted Marquez for the team's first-ever goal in the 15th minute, and Marquez assisted Afenegus for the next two in the 21st and 24th. Workman and Marquez closed the half with scores, and Zamores connected with Workman for the first goal of the second half in the 63rd.

Jonathan Morales played the first half at keeper for the Raiders and Deriana Saldana finished off the job.

"Even when we got up big, the effort was still really good," Afenegus said. "I was happy with that."

The Raiders will face a bigger challenge at 1 p.m. Thursday when they take on Menlo (Calif.), which won nine games in 2014.
