LA MIRADA, Calif. – Biola University scored two goals in each half for a 4-0 non-conference shutout of Northwest U in the season opener for both teams tonight on Barbour Field.

Misfortune found the NU Eagles in just 6:48 into the game when an own goal off an NU defender put the Biola Eagles on the scoreboard for the 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later, it would be Devin Leon scoring off an assist from Leonardo Contreras to give Biola a 2-0 lead at 7:43. Northwest U goalkeeper, Daniel Christenson would make 6 of his 9 saves in the half.

Joey O'Keefe would score the third goal for Biola in the 60th minute after his first shot was saved by Christenson, but O'Keefe would bury the rebound for the unassisted score. BU would put the game away at the 60:53 mark as Leon Contreras would take Joey O'Keefe's long ball on a breakaway finessing the ball past the NU keeper.

Biola's defense would limit Northwest U to six total shots in the game while getting 29 attempts of their own. JT Addington would earn the win and the shutout for Biola (1-0-0) in goal making three saves for the contest.

Northwest U (0-1-0) used 21 players in the game with Kyle Zimmerman leading the team with two shots. Ryan Gamache and Chris Iacolucci each had a shot on goal for the Eagles.

Leonardo Contreras led Biola with 9 shots including 5 shots on goal while teammate Joey O'Keefe had 8 shots while scoring a goal and adding an assist. Contreras scored one goal along with two assists.

"Tough loss as we started the game out well but the first two goals they scored caught us off guard, commented NU head coach, Gary McIntosh. "The effort was there but we did not combine enough offensively. We will rebound and learn from this outcome."

Northwest U will take a day off and then travel to Costa Mesa to take on another GSAC opponent in No. 8 ranked Vanguard at 4 p.m. on Friday, August 28.
