SALEM, Ore. – Thanks to four goals in a span of less than 10 minutes in the first half, the Corban University men's soccer team punished Trinity Western University (Canada) on Tuesday at Warrior Field, winning 4-0. For Corban it is its largest margin of victory on the year while continuing to maintain a perfect goals-against-average of 0.00.

"Our finishing has steadily improved over the last few weeks, and that composure during big moments is starting to show more often," said head coach Aaron Lewis. "More importantly than the result right now is lengthening the stretches of time that we play the right way. This team is full of players that will remain hungry to improve heading into next week's opportunities."
For Trinity Western, this result probably came as a bit of a surprise after drawing with Concordia University (Ore.) yesterday in Portland, 2-2, while losing to Seattle Pacific University a couple days earlier, 2-0. While both the Spartans and the Warriors were feeling each other out early on in the game, when the goals came for the Navy and Gold, the goals came fast and often.
Corban broke the game open in the 19th minute when senior defender Tim Kagey (West Linn, Ore.) played a long ball behind the Trinity Western defense, and junior forward Quamie Dinnall (May Pen, Jamaica) ran onto it, dribbled around the Spartan's goalkeeper and then slotted the ball comfortably into the back of the net to put Corban in front. For Dinnall, it was his first goal of the year.
Less than two minutes later, junior midfielder Nathaniel Cheney (Clarkston, Wash.) took advantage of a miscue by the Trinity Western defense and pounced, ripping a right-footed shot off of the bottom side of the crossbar and into the goal for his first score of the year.
In the 25th minute, Cheney was fouled in the box, earning Corban a penalty kick, and junior midfielder Armando Guevara (Salem, Ore.) made no mistake from the spot, burying his shot into the back of the net to give Corban a three-goal advantage.
Capping off the incredible 10-minute stretch for Corban, Dinnall served as the creator, beating a pair of defenders before chipping a clever pass over the top of the defense to freshman forward Nic Farr (Turner, Ore.), and Farr buried his header into the bottom-left corner of the goal, making it an insurmountable four-goal lead for Corban.
With that lead at the half, there was no coming back for Trinity Western, as the Warrior defense locked down the Spartan attack the entire contest, not allowing a single shot on goal for the match. Corban ended up outshooting the Spartans, 15-10, while owning a 5-0 shots-on-goal advantage as well.
Leading the attack for the Warriors was Dinnall with five shots, while both Cheney and Guevara registered two apiece.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Farr (Turner, Ore.) earned his second-straight shutout win, leading the Warriors from the back with a number of key snags on crosses, quality distribution, and solid communication with the defense and entire team.
Following the game, Dinnall talked about the win in a post-game interview:
Corban (3-0) returns to the pitch a week from tonight when it travels on the road for the first time in 2015, taking on George Fox University next Tuesday. Kickoff in Newberg, Ore., is set for 6 p.m.
