BLUE RIVER, Ore. – Four NCU players made their collegiate debut as the Beacon men’s golf team opened up the season on Monday with the first round of the New Hope Christian Invitational at Tokatee Golf Course. After 18 holes, the Beacons trail Corban University by six shots.
Freshman Levi Dean (pictured) had the best debut for Northwest Christian, starting off his career with a 79 which was good for fourth place. Sophomore Austin Dame followed with an 80, five shots lower than his freshman season average.
Playing as an individual, Senior Cody Gardner made his return for the Beacons as well, also shooting an 80 to tie with Dame for fifth place.
Three more freshman also competed for the first time. Jack Singleton carded an 84 followed by Josh Goins (85) and Tristan Ivie (86). Also competing as an individual for the Beacons was sophomore Jack Hackman, shooting a 96.
As a team, NCU scored a 328 as they need to make up six strokes on Corban University (322) in Tuesdays second round. New Hope Christian was unable to field a complete team in their tournament, but they boast the tournament individual leader in Trey Harbick, shooting a 76 on Monday.
Corban’s Jayce Boyd followed in second with a 77 while the Warriors Tristan Sulzmann sat in third with a 78.
