BLUE RIVER, Ore. – The Corban University men's golf team opened the 2015-16 campaign with a tournament victory at the New Hope Christian Invite on Monday and Tuesday, edging out Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) foe Northwest Christian University by 20 strokes during the two-round tournament. Fresh with a full new set of golfers, the Warriors showed promise of what is ahead for the Navy and Gold.

"It was great for our men's team to get the tournament win," said head coach Tom Graves. "I do not think any of them were satisfied with how they played, and there are plenty of things to improve upon as the season progresses. This is a young group of guys and I am confident that they will continue our tradition of success on the golf course."

Freshman Aaron Seabrook (East Wenatchee, Wash.) led the way for Corban with a two-round score of 157 (81,76), notching a five-stroke improvement on day two. His score put him at 13-over par for the tournament and just three strokes off of the tournament individual championship.

Also performing well was freshman swinger Landon Joy (Vancouver, Wash.), as he tied for fourth overall with a two-round score of 161 (82, 79). Fellow freshman Tristan Sulzmann (Grand Terrace, Calif.) took seventh overall for the Navy and Gold, signing his scorecard with a two-round mark of 164 (78, 86). Rounding out Corban's scorers was freshman Alex Cole (Cheyenne, Wyo.), as he finished at 166 (81, 85) and in eighth overall.

Also competing in his first tournament for the Warriors was freshman swinger Michael Clark (Central Point, Ore.), as he finished the two days in 11th at 171 (82, 89), while two individuals also played for the Navy and Gold, as sophomore Jayce Boyd (Lebanon, Ore.) tallied a two-round score of 163 (77, 86) and freshman Aaron Hammarstrom (Murrieta, Calif.) finished his first tournament at 183 (87, 96).

NCU, who finished 20 strokes off the pace set by Corban was led by Cody Gardner who took third overall with a two-round mark of 158 (80, 78). Austin Dame also shot well, tying for fourth with a mark of 161 (80, 81) for the Beacons.

NCU registered round scores of 328 and 340 (668).

Corban returns to action next week at the Oregon Tech Fall Invite in Klamath Falls at the Running Y Resort.
