Knight Men Defeat NU in CCC Opener
PORTLAND, Ore. - Warner Pacific used stingy defense and two timely goals to defeat Northwest University 2-0 today at Damazo field.
The first period was uneventful, with scoring opportunities few and far between. Warner Pacific had the best chance in the 28th minute, but
Cesar Esquivel's header clanged off the crossbar.
The host Knights found a few cracks in the NU defense after halftime, and broke through in the 56th minute.
Mario Guizar latched on to a crossing pass from Esquivel and tucked away the shot from 8 yards.
WPC doubled their lead seven minutes later, and this time Esquivel was the goalscorer instead of the helper. Johannes Rieber knifed a through pass into the penalty area, and Esquivel converted from 10 yards away.
Joe White made seven saves in goal for Warner Pacific - his second shutout of the season.
The Knights will host Evergreen tomorrow night at 10 pm, while Northwest heads to Eastern Oregon.
