NU Slips Past Knights with Second Half Goal
PORTLAND, Ore. - The visiting Northwest Eagles scored the go-ahead goal in the 61st minute and secured a 3-2 win over Warner Pacific today at Damazo Field. It was the Cascade Conference opener for both teams.
Annie Shellerud looped the shot that proved to be the game winner for NU after a scramble for the ball inside the WPC penalty area.
The visiting Eagles were the aggressor in the opening stages, scoring two goals inside of 13 minutes. Kylie Garrison scored on a well placed header in the 8th minute, then went ahead 2-0 by way of a Warner Pacific own goal.
The Knights got on the board thanks to a penalty kick in the 22nd minute. WP's
Brittney Yoshimura was tripped in the box, and
Staci Tatum calmly converted the try to halve the NU lead.
Warner Pacific drew level in the second half, as Tatum struck again in the 52nd minute.
Kayla Currin lofted a long free kick that
Janae Benson chested down to the foot of Tatum, who finished from 8 yards away.
That set up the final goal from Shellerud that sent Northwest to the CCC win.
Warner Pacific will host Evergeen tomorrow night at 8pm, while NU heads to face Eastern Oregon.
