NU teams up to make one of their 12 blocks on the night. NU Sweeps Boxers in Home Opener 9/1/2015 10:11:20 PM KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University made quick work of their match with Pacific University as they defeated the Boxers in straight sets, 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-11) in their home opener tonight in front of a boisterous crowd in the NU Pavilion. It was the season opener for Pacific. It took the Eagles one hour and twenty minutes as their defense forced 20 Pacific errors while committing just 7 of their own. Northwest U's front wall blocked 12 Pacific kill attempts. Pacific led in the secon set 10-7 until the Eagles outscored the Boxers 7-4 to tie the set at 14-all. Leading 19-6 later in the set, NU would score the final six points to go up 2-0 in the match. Leading the way for Northwest U (4-2) was Amanda Waterman with 8 kills and 6 digs. Morgan Pilon lead the team with a match high 18 assists while freshman Emmaline Stockton finished with 13 digs. NU hit .262 as a team. Leia Roy and Alysanne Van Dyke each had two service aces for the Eagles. For Pacific University (0-1), Tiare Kaopua led the way with 10 kills and teammate Lia Zablan had 10 defensive digs. The NU defense held Pacific to -.080 hitting as a team. Said Coach Steve Bain, "There was great energy in the gym tonight and I thought our players fed off that energy from the opening serve to the final point. Overall, I was pleased with our approach and except for a lull in the second half we stayed on task and were very efficient in serve-receive and in our transition offense." Northwest U will open Cascade Conference play this weekend as they travel to Portland to play Warner Pacific and conference newcomer, Multnomah on Sept. 4 and 5.
