2015 Men’s Cross Country Coaches’ Top 25 Poll – No. 2 (Sept. 23)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Southern Oregon Raiders are the No. 1 team in the second regular-season NAIA Men’s Cross Country Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Wednesday. The third poll will be released on Sept. 30.
Top 25 Highlights (historical information dates back to 1999):

Southern Oregon is No. 1 after receiving 16-of-the 20 possible first-place votes for a total of 557 points.

No. 2 Oklahoma City claimed the four remaining first-place votes and 543 total points.

No. 14 Aquinas (Mich.) has found themselves in the Top 25 for a NAIA-best 148-consecutive polls, dating back to Aug. 22, 2000.

Southern Oregon looks to join Oklahoma City (2014) and former NAIA member Malone (Ohio) (2007 & 2008) as the only schools to go the entire season ranked No. 1.

Southern Oregon has the second-most No. 1 rankings with 33, trailing former NAIA member Malone, which has 38.

There are two new additions to the top 25 – No. 22 Dalton State (Ga.) and No. 25 Westmont (Calif.)

Thirteen of the 21 NAIA men’s cross country conferences are represented in the poll. The Cascade Collegiate Conference (Southern Oregon, No. 11 College of Idaho, No. 15 Oregon Tech and No. 20 Northwest Christian (Ore.)) and the Crossroads League (No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan, No. 13 Taylor (Ind.), No. 19 Bethel (Ind.) and No. 23 Marian (Ind.)) leads all conferences with four ranked teams.

No. 12 Saint Mary (Kan.) had the biggest jump within the Top 25, as they moved up five spots from No. 17.

The Master’s (Calif.) had the biggest drop, sliding down three spots from No. 17 to No. 14.
Poll Methodology:

The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and the Association of Independent Institutions.

The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each voter ranks the best teams. A team receives 30 points for each first-place vote, 29 for second-place and so on through the list.

The highest and lowest ranking for each team (a non-rating is considered a low ratings) is removed and the team’s ranking will be recalculated with an additional point added to each team for every ballot (including discounted ballots) that the teams appears on.

Teams that receive only one point in the ballot are not considered “receiving votes”
