Visiting Northwest Christian compiled 11 team blocks to defeat The Evergreen State College, 25-21, 25-19, 25-16, in a Cascade Collegiate Conference volleyball match played Saturday night at CRC Gymnasium.

The Beacons ended a seven-match winning streak and are now 8-7 overall and 1-7 in conference, while the Geoducks are now 2-12 overall and 2-7 in the CCC.

NCU used a strong defensive effort at the net to snuff the Evergreen attack. Cassidy Winters compiled one solo block and five block assists, Kayla Ping had one solo and four block assists, and Chandler Gabrio ended the match with four block assists as the Beacons held the Geoducks to -.020 hitting for the match. The Beacons, on the other hand, finished with a .163 attack percentage.

With the first set tied at 20-20, the Beacons scored the final five points with three of those coming on blocks. Evergreen led the second set 17-14 before the Beacons scored 11 of the final 13 points to close it out. Laurie Salness had a service ace and Ping was in on two blocks during the run, but the Geoducks were their own worst enemies with seven unforced attacking errors down the stretch. The Beacons never trailed in the third set, hitting .259 and racking up five of their blocks to finish off the victory.

Leading the way for Evergreen were Jordan Porter with a match-high 11 kills, Kelsey Delagrange with 25 assists and Alexis Barkley with 10 digs.

For Northwest Christian, Taylor Burnett and Ping both had nine kills, Salness had 27 assists and Haley Damian contributed 12 digs.

Evergreen is back in action at 7 p.m. Tuesday when it plays a conference match at Northwest University.
