SALEM, Ore. – In almost a carbon copy of Friday's match at Warrior Field, the Corban University women's soccer team gave up an early second-half goal and fell on Saturday, 1-0, this time to Oregon Tech. For the Warriors, it is their sixth time being shutout in seven games.
In the first stanza, neither side had too many good looks at goal and the shot count finished even at 5-5 in the first half. Both goalkeepers were forced to make one save.
In the second half, Alyssa Stewart put the Owls on the scoreboard when she headed home a corner-kick from Jodie Reoch in the 52nd minute, giving Oregon Tech a lead it would not relinquish.
Corban pressed late in the contest, but was unable to find the finishing touch it was looking for, resulting in its second-consecutive 1-0 defeat at home.
The shot count ended at 10-10, while Corban held the slight advantage in corner-kicks at 2-1.
Warrior sophomore forward Sadee Kallis (Yakima, Wash.) and Corban freshman midfielder Julia Agarkov (Brush Prairie, Wash.) both recorded a team-best two shots apiece.
"As banged up as we are on the back line with injuries, we played well defensively as a team," said head coach Marty Ziesemer. "As I said before, players are doing what they need to do to be successful, but we need to score some goals and that has been our struggle these last several matches. Oregon Tech did a great job today limiting our opportunities, and when things don't go the way we want them to, we start to lose some confidence. When we find success in scoring, I am confident the momentum will swing our way."
Corban (3-7, 1-3 CCC) returns to action next week when it takes on Northwest Christian University on October 2 at 3 p.m.
